Decisioncell leads team of developers in Canada and U.S. on the construction of a student loan servicing application |
| | |
Decisioncell was responsible for designing, developing, and testing two critical sub-systems for a large student loan processing application. The two sub-systems were high-volume, multi-tier transactional architectures that were challenged with processing data files and real-time messages from external applications. Decisioncell lead a team of developers based in both Toronto and Denver, and together they brought both sub-systems across the finish line.

Decisioncell builds a patient eligibility/invoicing system for a disease management company |
| | |
This customer had outgrown their old system for tracking patients and invoicing health plans for disease
management services. Not only had the volume of transactions increased, but the business rules had become increasingly more complex,
and their old system simply didn’t handle this growing complexity. As a result, their old system often produced inaccurate output, and
many calculations and data tracking requirements had to be handled manually and inefficiently by personnel.
No off-the-shelf software met the needs of this business, so Decisioncell designed and built a new Patient Eligibility and Invoicing system to
solve the problem. Throughout the project, stakeholders ranging from the CEO, CFO, to financial analysts and data entry staff were involved in
providing input to the Decisioncell team. Decisioncell produced data and process models to facilitate requirements gathering and business needs analysis, and we
also created working prototypes to show the customer key system features before they committed to a particular design. An extremely challenging but successful
data migration process was developed to pull existing data from the old system into the new database once it was built.
The interface consists of several data entry and data access forms, as well as embedded Crystal reports and an html-based help menu. The
invoice output is produced in Excel. This new system calculates complex business formulas (that used to be calculated manually and often incorrectly),
quickly generates accurate invoices, and ensures data quality with data validation and constraints. The new system has directly resulted in these
benefits for the customer: 1) the business has reduced staff requirements by approximately 2 FTEs per month; 2) they are now capturing money
previously lost because of inaccuracies in the old system that led to under-billing; 3) the company is preserving customer goodwill, which was
sometimes abused by the old system when it over-billed in certain instances.
- Database development done in MS SQL Server 2000
- Presentation tier and business logic tier done in C# and Visual Basic .NET
- Other tools used: Crystal Reports, Excel, Visio (for the system models), HTML Help Workshop

Decisioncell helps a growing national pharmacy chain improve pricing accuracy and daily sales reporting |
| | |
The pharmacy management software used by this customer
was inadequate in several areas: 1) it did not come with reports to measure trends pertaining to retail drug prices;
(2) the software did not allow this customer to perform any type of impact analysis related to changing their current
pricing calculations; (3) the software did not provide a workable interface to this company’s accounting software or POS
application, which resulted in an incomplete picture when trying to compile daily, monthly, or quarterly reports for both
pharmacy and non-pharmacy sales at all of the company's retail locations.
Decisioncell started this project with a non-technological aim
in mind: communicate with the vendor of the pharmacy management system in an attempt to increase the vendor’s responsiveness to
the customer. But that was only the beginning. The pharmacy system vender cooperated with Decisioncell by providing us with the
information we used to create a series of pricing analysis reports. In turn, Decisioncell was able to provide concrete
recommendations to both the customer and the pharmacy system vendor about how the drug pricing calculations could best be
improved.
Decisioncell also designed and coded stored procedures to capture
data from this customer’s POS system and their pharmacy system in order to produce accurate, timely, consolidated sales performance
figures for all parts and all locations of this customers business.

Decisioncell gives a medical products company better sales reporting capabilities |
| | |
This company was using a third-party reporting tool that was unable to
process the enormous quantities of data required to produce timely sales reports. The company was using the Oracle database to capture its
daily business transactions, so Decisioncell created off-line data tables and several Oracle stored procedures to pre-process this high-volume
data (million-plus rows) for greater reporting access speed. The data processing is automated via Unix shell scripts and a third-party scheduler.
As a result of this work, this company is able to obtain accurate, timely sales performance reports on demand.

Decisioncell improves a manufacturing company’s inventory control |
| | |
This customer was having a hard time controlling inventory. On a regular basis they suffered either production delays due to shortages or
inventory overhead excesses, both of which cost the company money, time, and staff and customer frustration. Decisioncell created a Visual Basic-driven solution that allows the business to accurately measure inventory utilization. As a result, this customer has been able to
adjust its inventory on hand to avoid shortages and excess overhead costs.

- Interface programming done in Visual Basic 6.0
- Output created in Excel

Decisioncell creates automated financial reports |
| | |
This business was struggling with creating accurate financial statements. Before Decisioncell arrived, generating financial statements had
required too many manual steps, as well as too much system processing time, and on several occasions these reports had not been completely accurate. Decisioncell worked with the CFO and several financial
analysts to create a solution that would solve this company’s financial reporting problems. We developed a thorough understanding of the company’s general ledger and the shareholder reporting requirements.
As a result, Decisioncell produced various balance sheet report, income statements (summary and detail), and gross margin reports, all with various category and territory breakouts. This customer can now
report accurate, timely financial information to its executives and shareholders.
- Database development done in MS SQL Server 2000
- Report output in Crystal and Safari
- Other tool used was VBScript for report automation

Decisioncell improves I.T. employee productivity with a technical training program for a medical imaging company |
| | |
Decisioncell created a training program for developing
customized data access applications using Oracle, Crystal, Safari, UNIX, BaaN, OLAP technologies. The final result of this training program
development was that we authored two training manuals designed to develop both a hands-on proficiency with these software tools and working
familiarity of the underlying database, as well as reinforce this company's best practices with solutions development. Using these manuals,
we conducted a series of on-site training workshops. The outcome of this project has been developers are creating business-critical applications
and reports with confidence and skill.
- Database expertise required in Oracle
- Other technology experience demanded for Unix, Crystal, Safari, BaaN, and OLAP.

Decisioncell strengthens system security for a multi-site organization |
| | |
Decisioncell made significant security and reliability customizations to the customer’s
mission-critical production client-server reporting system. This project consisted of (1) a thorough analysis of user security features
in the existing system; (2) exhaustive sandbox testing of potential solutions (3) a review phase wherein we submitted candidate solutions
to management and end users; (4) a final high-profile, high-stress implementation phase during which we implemented the chosen solution in the
production environment over the course of one weekend, all with no subsequent interruptions in the production system.

- Additional programming required for Unix shell scripts
- Other technology experience demanded for Crystal, Safari, BaaN, and OLAP
